There’s this post about how if your feminism doesn’t include destroying racism it’s white supremacy.
This is why it’s white supremacy. Like yeah Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a man, but he’s also a man of color. Gloating about how Lucy, a film where a white woman who’s shown to be shooting men of color for not speaking English in a country where English isn’t widely spoken… isn’t intersectional feminism. Instead it’s the essence of white feminism because it’s glorifying the white hero in a non white country, when we are less than a century away from white Europe having colonized the majority of what is now referred as “third world countries” make no mistake colonialism is not dead. So basically if you see Lucy in the theater unfollow me rn.
Boycott Lucy watch Hercules.

I watched Hercules today.  It was a good film, with great supporting actors, quite a few funny moments, Ian McShane (YES) and a lot of action. The Rock proves to be a very good actor, and really sells the character of Hercules.
I’m not surprised the imagery being used around Lucy leading Hercules in the box office.  It feeds on all the negative views of the “Far East” that Hollywood has been milking for years.  Nothing has changed really.  I will say this… we’ve already known that white women lead movies (action or otherwise) sell.  We know that by looking at all the romantic dramas, adventure shows, and YA adaptations lead by young white women that make money.  So yeah, we’ll get MORE white women lead dramas, action, romantic comedies, and sci-fi movies.  But will that mean we’ll see Black, Asian, and Latinas getting to lead movies, too, since female lead action movies are selling and have been for the last 10 years? NOPE.
But “yay feminism”… or some shit.

My friend mentioned (just yesterday actually) that English is pretty widely used in Taiwan, the population has a 95% literacy rate, and that English is compulsory at a certain age…so Lucy’s pretty damn ignorant on a meta-level (as if we didn’t already know that just by viewing the trailer).
Those headlines remind me of those “kill all men” memes.

This is kind of embarrassing. You have American’s who can’t find the heart to help these people so now we have the Canadians coming to the rescue. We are thrilled to spend trillions of dollars in war in other countries to “Help Them” but can’t find the heart to put these people on a payment plan they can afford. “Values”?

Kim Kelley-Wagner has two daughters who were adopted from China. In everyday life, they have been subjected to horrid statements from people - to their faces, to their mother as they stood by her, etc. In this photo collection, shared on her blog, Kim and her daughters (Lily and Meika) put these ignorant cruelties front and center. [x]

"I have tried to explain to my daughters that people do not say these things to be mean, they say them out of ignorance, which is why I am sharing some of them. Words are powerful, they can become tools or weapons, choose to use them wisely."

this post reminded me of something:

My all time favorite thing to see on my dash are some people who reblog/make posts about feminism, LGBT+, and/or gender related issues IF AND ONLY IF it’s in relation to white people or does not speak directly about non-white people. Like, y’all will sit there and reblog any post if some white feminist says, but I never see you reblog anything a black feminist says. Or if there’s a post that speaks about intersectionality- because believe it or not, that exists!- or posts speaking about, say, trans POC in particular, y’all will turn your heads and act like it don’t exist.

I see y’all.

Left is the new Wonder Woman. Being deemed still too skinny and frail. Right is Kacy Catanzaro, the first female to advance to the finals of American Ninja. Considered strong and inspiring to female athletes. Stop assuming someone is weak based off your closed minded ignorant ideals.

Wow.
I hadn’t really considered this. Interesting point!

Yeah, but: There’s a reason for the word AMAZON.
It’s great that Kacy Catanzaro is small but is strong as hell. But don’t we have enough ‘strong female characters’ who are skinny and model-delicate? Why can’t Diana, the Princess of the Amazons, actually BE the cultural ideal of what an Amazon is? The one female character who has it built into her mythology that she’s huge and powerful — taller than most of her male peers — and it’s “closed minded and ignorant” to want her to look like that, when we don’t see that kind of female strength in the media unless they’re making that woman out to be a freak or grotesque?
So even apart from her disgusting anti-Palestine comments, Gal Gadot is not the Wonder Woman for me. I DO want a big strong Amazon princess. Where the hell else am I gonna get one?

Why Guys Like Asian Girls - Anna Akana

Everyone needs to watch this video. Now.

100% on point especially about men thinking that having “yellow fever” is a compliment and we’re supposed to be flattered by it. It’s the #1 way to parade around your blatant racism.

I want to be friends with her!
